How to Pump Down an Agilent 5977 GC/MS After Maintenance | Vacuum Startup Step-by-Step
Pumping an Agilent 5977 GC/MS back down after maintenance is the moment you find out whether everything was put back together correctly.
In this video, I show the pump-down process after the MS has been opened for maintenance.
I go through:
• Closing the analyzer and establishing the initial vacuum
• Starting Pump Down in Vacuum Control
• Watching the foreline pressure decrease
• Monitoring the diffusion pump, source and quadrupole status
• Confirming the system reaches READY TO RUN
In this case, the foreline pressure reached about 0.2 mTorr as the system returned to operating condition.
Opening an MS is only half of the job. Getting it pumped down, stable and ready for analytical work is the other half.
For someone doing GC/MS maintenance for the first time, this is one of those procedures that makes much more sense once you actually see it done.
