How to Update Retention Times After Clipping a GC Column | Agilent EnviroQuant GC/MS
Clipping a GC column can shift retention times — but your GC/MS calculation method still contains the old values.
In this video, I show how I update retention times in Agilent EnviroQuant after trimming a GC/MS capillary column.
I walk through the actual software workflow:
• Review the chromatogram after the column has been clipped
• Check the new compound retention times
• Load the appropriate quantitation/calculation method
• Confirm compound identification
• Open the calibration update function
• Select the existing calibration level
• Update Retention Times
• Replace the previous retention times with the current values
• Save the updated method
• Verify that the compounds are correctly positioned after the update
Even removing a small amount of capillary column can shift retention times. If the calculation method is not updated, the expected retention times may no longer line up correctly with the chromatographic peaks.
This is one of the software steps I check after routine GC column trimming.
